When it comes to your everyday makeup routine it can quickly become very boring. If you open your makeup bag and it’s messy, you don’t really know what products do what than it can get very easy to fall into a very boring makeup routine or you will avoid doing your makeup at all. I know that I have been like that in the past however I have found by changing a few simple things you can really step up your makeup game and start to enjoy doing your makeup.

• First things first you will want to invest in a few good makeup brushes. Now before you tell me how expensive brushes can be let me first say that there are two things you need to remember. First I didn’t say buy lots and lots of amazing brushes I said a few. I would recommend 3 quality brushes to start off with. I personally would recommend 1. Foundation Brush (whatever type you prefer) 2. Powder/Bronzer Brush 3. Eye shadow Blending brush. With these three brushes you can create almost any look.

The other thing you need to remember is you are only as good as the tools that you have.

So invest by buying one at a time and you will quickly see the difference in your makeup and how it looks/lasts.

• Know what products to buy that are cheaper verses more expensive. Now it would be silly of me to say go out and buy a whole new makeup bag filled with expensive new products. That just wouldn’t work because I don’t even do that. There are certain products that you can totally buy cheaper and that work great and on the other hand there are some products that you will want to invest in. Personally I would say that most products that are used on your eyes I would say go for quality. Your mascara, eye shadow and eyeliner are worth getting the more high end brands for two reasons. 1. You don’t want to mess with your eyes. Eyes are very sensitive and you want only quality products around them. 2. What is the point in buying a cheap mascara/eyeliner if by 11am it’s smudged and flaking off? Buy the more expensive product but it will last all day and look great! Products that are fine to go on the cheaper end are products like cheek shimmers and blushers.

• Have different foundations for different skin types. Now you may be thinking I am a little crazy. You probably think that’s silly since your skin is one type. Well think again. Our skin goes through so many different changes in a month. It can be oilier one week and much dryer the next. It comes down to our lovely hormones as well as the weather and where we work (air con etc.) It’s really important to look in the mirror each day and see what your skin is telling you. If you skin feels tighter than you would use a more moisturizing foundation. On days where its way more oily then you would use a matte foundation. It will make a big difference in how your makeup feels and lasts during the day.

• Clean out your makeup bag. This might seem like such a simple tip but its makes a huge difference in how you feel doing your makeup in the morning. If you open the bag and there is powder everywhere, lipsticks that have lost their lids and foundation on everything then you are not going to want to open it up and do your makeup. So get everything out then get some makeup/baby wipes and give everything a good wipe including the bag. Even though I would say go crazy and get a new bag. There are so many cute bags that are cheap why not start with a fresh makeup bag. Once everything has been cleaned have a look at what you have. Is it old? Do any of the products smell funny or like plastic? If so then throw it away! Next see what you have left and where the gaps are. Do you have a good blush? Need a new everyday lippy? Well here’s the fun part. Go and treat yo self! Having some new makeup will inspire you to try new and fun looks.

• Lastly just learn. I have been a full time makeup artist for over 9 years and I still love watching makeup videos, reading books and other blogs. There is so much to learn. Watch lots of videos and then give them a go. Makeup should be fun and not scary. ♥
