Date Night Ideas that Don’t Suck

My husband and I try to have date nights as much as possible. We didn’t used to make it as much of a priority but after a while we found it can be easy to become complacent. Now we try to have date night once a week. The other day I went to find some date night ideas because if I don’t know something I first and foremost google! I typed in Date Night ideas and came across the most cheesy ideas. One blog said make a nice dinner at home and then sit on the couch and look into each others eyes….um sorry but I would rather not spend my evening staring at my husbands pupils. So here are some ideas that we love. Some are cheaper dates and some are more expensive. I hope this gives you and your partner some ideas for your next date night.

1. Head to your nearest Irish pub on a live music night, order pub food, a huge beer and sit by the fire/kick his ass at pool. Live Irish music makes everything feel fun.

2. Head outdoors. My husband and I both love getting out of the city. Check out the nearest national parks or walks. This sounds so simple but its such a great time just getting away from the hustle and bustle.

3. On some date nights you just want to go out for dinner and keep it chilled but that’s when the pre dinner, “Where do you want to go” discussion can go very bad. So we have a jar and every time I say to my husband, “Oh I wanna try this place,” he makes me write it down and put it in a jar. So when its date night we just draw a piece of paper and go to whatever restaurant it says. This has saved us many hangry arguments.

4. Now there is nothing cheesy about a good ol’ picnic. Sometimes date night is just about being together. So make dinner, pop it in a carry container, grab some wine and a blanket and just go to the nearest park or beach. Change of scenery can be all you need.

5. Go to Movies in the Park. I know in Auckland they have these in summer at Silo park and we loved it for date night. The trick is to bring lots of pillows and blankets. What could be better!

6. If you partner owns a van or truck (or someone who you know does) fill the back with a mattress and pillows and go park in a national camping site (aka free and has bathrooms). Pour a wine, eat some snacks and enjoy the view. We have done this and ended up staying the night. The photo below is my husbands truck…so fun!

7. Open your atlas or get a world globe if you have one. Have one of you close your eyes and point to a country. That’s the cuisine you have to either order in or go out and eat tonight. This is so fun because we have tried so many new international cuisines this way. This is verging on cheesy but honestly its fun.

8. Go to speedway. I think that’s what its called haha. Its when the cars race around. Sounds lame but the atmosphere is amazing, there are the best junk food stalls and your man will love it.

9. Nothing beats getting really dressed up and going out somewhere special. If your budget allows then go for it. There doesn’t always need to be a big special occasion and sometimes that’s what makes it so special.

10. Hit the casino. My husband and I have done this lots and its really fun. Set yourselves a limit and then go crazy. When your done just get a drink and watch people, the craziest people are at the casino! ♥
