Boss Babe// Amy Jean Eye Couture

You know them when you see them; on Lucy in accounting, perhaps on your mother or worse in the mirror—thin, over-plucked eyebrows. In 1990, when Kate Moss appeared on the cover of Style magazine she had almost non-existent, little-girl brows. Thin brows were very much in—however women quickly realized that the growing back is much harder than the plucking. Most of the advice we received from our mothers and grandmothers was don’t over pluck your brows, they wont grow back…but you didn’t listen did you?

In the last few years the brow game has changed and changed for good. We now see that thick bold brows frame the face and actually make you look more powerful. Lets be honest, you don’t mess with a woman with great brows. Some of the most stunning women in Hollywood all sporting the new, bold brow: Jennifer Connolly, Kate Winslet, Madonna and Cara Delevingne (below) all have brows that are thick and defined. The bold brow is all over the catwalks with the model’s brows almost stealing the show they were so large. 820a9346b08853ec6e4a937b57d0a1a1[1] So what can be done for your brows? Well in the past the only permanent option was to have them tattooed on. Unless you want grandma’s blue-liner eyebrows there is only one solution…or should I say one person that can seriously help. Amy Jean Eye Couture is your saving grace. Vogue Magazine’s “Arch angel” Amy-Jean Linnehan is known as Australia’s “go-to eyebrow magician”. She is famous for mastering the art of Feather-touch Brow Tattooing“. Magazines such as Harpers Bazaar, Marie Claire and Grazia have all sung Amy Jean Eye Couture’s praises and when you see the before and after pictures you can see why. I got to ask the brow queen herself questions on her celebrity clients, her favorite products and of course everything brows.

Where did your understanding of the importance of brows come from? Believe it or not humans are naturally programmed to be attracted to symmetry. I have always been a keen artist growing up and the “art of a well sculpted brow” has the ability to make or break a face.

You are known for being the brow go to girl for celebrities, Who have you worked with? Dannii Minogue, Naomi Campbell, Mel B, Courtney love, Jesinta Campbell to name a few…

Which celebrity do you think is rocking the best brows at the moment? Camilla Belle hands down! When it comes to brows what are most woman doing wrong? It’s normally a case of over-plucking or not knowing how to subtly enhance what nature gave you.

How do you know the right brow shape for your face? As a general rule of thumb a longer thinner face shape suits a flatter fuller brow that will widen their face. On the other hand, a round and full face, suits a more defined arch to create more length for the face (or to thin the face).

Filling in or defining your brows is so important, what products do you best recommend? Our best seller is the Amy Jean Brow Velvet RRP $55.00 available online at www.amyjean.com.au This is a powder that looks soft and natural with a “fluffy” finish to mimic a real hair effect. If you still have rogue brows it is best to seal the hairs down to the skin with a clear brow gel such as Amy Jean Brow lacquer $35.00

Have you ever met brows that you cant tackle? No, there is a solution for all types of brows. Sometimes we remove hair by shaping and sculpting and sometimes we are adding hairs using a micro-pigmenting technique called “feather-touch tattooing” to create the illusion of hair strokes where it might be missing or has become sparse over the years. Feather-touch eyebrow art is fast becoming the most in-demand brow treatment across the globe, but beware, this is NOT permanent cosmetic tattooing done with a tattoo gun, this a topical procedure where light strokes are etched into the skin and pigment is micro-implanted to mimic the effect of real hair. From threading, waxing or tweezing what’s your weapon of choice? I’m all for waxing so that when the fine “downy” hair is waxed it leaves a polished glow. This gives radiance to the eye. Then I follow by sculpting a brow using fine pointed tweezers so that I can be quite particular about which brow hairs I will remove and which ones need to stay. b1

What’s one piece of advice you would give to a woman who has never touched her brows but wants to start to maintain them? I would strongly advise investing in an initial consultation with an eyebrow specialist. Do your research before you commit to an appointment, look at some before and after pics of the artists work before you hand over your arches. Once you have had an initial sculpt and/or colour adjustment your new shape should provide a great template for tweezing the re-growth and maintaining the correct shape that was initially designed for you.

If you are sent to a deserted island what would be the three beauty products you would take? ModelCo tan in a can, Dr Spiller Collagen Cream and Amy Jean Brow Velvet.
