Boss Babe// Xander Vintage

Alanna Durkovich stands out. She “pops” from the screen for a number of reasons. Firstly she is beautiful. Like crazy babe status. Secondly, her hair is a work of art with blue and purple hues. Thirdly, and certainly not least, is her style. The Canadian blogger is in love with pre-loved clothing. She blogs and shops vintage and she does it oh so well. There is no reducing Alanna’s style to one category; she has a wonderful ability to throw together everything from street to sweet and has an Etsy site where she sells the most drool-worthy vintage clothing. I was lucky enough to chat to her this week about travel, crocks and sushi.

FM-Firstly tell us where your from and a little about you/what you do? I’m from Vancouver, British Columbia. I’m a mother to a boisterous 2 year old and a fiancée to a wonderful man (who is also the full-time photographer for my personal style blog, Xander Vintage).

FM-When it comes to fashion what’s your pet peeve? I used to say socks with sandals, but I can’t say that anymore—strangely enough it’s back on trend. I guess I don’t currently have one; every ‘pet peeve’ is becoming more and more accepted. Actually, visible panty lines are extremely bothersome.

FM-Where do you draw your fashion inspiration from/style icon? I mostly draw inspiration from other bloggers. It’s amazing to have the ability to connect with bloggers from around the world that also share their personal style on the web. I’m active on fashion social networks (i.e. Chictopia and Lookbook.nu), and those platforms hold an unlimited amount of fashion inspiration.

FM-What do you think will be trending soon? Normcore is out to play, and I’m just praying that Crocs continue to stay outside the ‘trend’ circle.

FM-What is hot at the moment? Birkenstocks are back, and I’m seeing them absolutely everywhere. But I’m definitely not complaining, they are the comfiest sandals I’ve ever owned.

FM-If you were to travel with only 5 items what would they be? iPhone, iPhone charger, enormous knit sweater, lip balm, and my camera (I’d say money, but I’m going to assume that it’s implied)

FM-What’s is the best thing your city has to offer? Amazing sushi. It won’t get any better, unless you’re in Japan.

FM-What is your favorite item of clothing in your wardrobe? Light-washed distressed denim. They are the easiest piece to style and throw on while you’re in a mad-rush to get out of the house—while still looking trendy, of course.

FM-What is your best general fashion advice? Not to be afraid to step out of your comfort zone every once in a while. You’d be surprised to see the items you wouldn’t typically try on, look amazing on you.

FM-Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Being a mom of two, finally married to a certain gentlemen, and hopefully still blogging.
