Embracing the Freckle

Recently I have had a number of people ask me how I came up with my company name Freckles and Blush so I thought I would take a second and tell you a bit about Freckles and Blush. When I started out as a makeup artist I was blown away by how often my clients would put themselves down when I was doing their makeup. Everyday I would hear, “Oh there is nothing you can do for this old face,” or “Good luck honey only magic or a surgeon can make me look good,”. I would hear these beautiful woman tearing themselves to pieces and I hated it. These woman with beautiful features would ignore all the beauty and only comment on the things they didn’t like.

One day I was doing a woman’s makeup on counter. She was beautiful with long dark hair and these most stunning freckles dotted along her cheeks. Even before I could open my mouth to compliment her she said, “Whatever you do could you cover these disgusting freckles,”. I remember just staring at her like how do you not love your freckles? I looked at her and said, “Well I actually think your freckles are so beautiful and one of my favorite makeup looks ever is freckles and blush.” I ended up showing her that with a lighter foundation (not a heavy one that covers everything) and a light pop of a peachy blush her skin actually looked like it was glowing!

When she left I jotted down the name freckles and blush and I knew that’s what I was going to call my business. To me the “freckle” is whatever you may not like about your face. Your “freckle” might be a curve in your nose, or your un matched eyebrows or perhaps it is your actual freckles. We all have things we would like to change but I personally believe that it’s only when we embrace our “freckle” that we can find our true beauty. I believe that your confidence in your own beauty comes when you can look in the mirror, see what you may not love on your face and still know that you are beautiful. That’s why when it comes to makeup I am all about using makeup to embrace features never to mask them. Makeup to me is simply a wonderful tool that we can use to enhance our features, even our freckles. ♥
