Is it time to clean out your makeup? The Answer might surprise you

When it comes to makeup myths one of my worst ones is, “All makeup causes you to breakout,” Beeeeep Wrong! That’s just not true but the wrong makeup will cause your skin to breakout or react. The number one culprit is….old makeup. It might be a $100 foundation but if it’s old then it won’t be doing anything to help your skin.

Makeup is like your toothbrush. If you use it past its time…it’s not really that helpful.

So here are some quick and easy tips so that you will know when to keep or chuck your makeup.

Mascara– Yay we love mascara. I am pretty sure that on almost every girls “What I would take to a desert island” there is mascara on the list. However once mascara goes past its best before date then it can be a breeding ground for bacteria and we all know that bacteria and our eyes are not a good mix. So how long until we need to throw our mascaras away? The answer might surprise you. You’ve got two to three months with your mascara wand once opened. Here is a tip- Don’t pump your mascara wand as it lets in too much air.

Eyeliner– It all depends on the type of eyeliner you use. For liquid or gel then you are looking at the same shelf life as mascara around 3 months. However for a pencil liner just remember to sharpen it often.

Lipstick– This one is a little better. You have about two years before your lippy might cause more harm than good. However try to clean it with a makeup wipe often.

I am often amazing when a woman proudly tells me that she has had her lipstick since 2008.

Ekkk for the sake of infection chuck it out!

And lastly Powders– These suckers can last the longest. However only if they stay dry. If you have a powder that you get wet with a sponge then 6 months and say goodbye ♥
