My Favorite Pinks for Breast Cancer Action Month

Makeup is a wonderful tool that can make a woman feel sexy, confident, beautiful and powerful. Those are some of my favorite words! However when it comes to the way we feel makeup can only go so far. At the end of the night we take off our makeup, makeup can smudge and a little rain can ruin even the most perfect contour.

That’s why I am always looking for what gives me those same feelings but will last. Doing volunteer work makes me feel confident because I know I am doing my best to help others. Exercise makes me feel sexy. I don’t work out to look a certain way for my man but rather to be the best version of myself for me and the result is that I feel sexy in my own skin. Being pregnant has made me feel a deeper level of beautiful. It’s that raw sacrifice for another human and the way my body is changing that makes me feel beautiful. And powerful? Well it’s the way I make sure I am healthy. I don’t mean eating my greens healthy but the kind of healthy that gets me into doctor appointments that aren’t particularly enjoyable. Blood tests, smear tests, and the very important mammogram test.

It’s the mammogram that I want to bring your attention to as October is Breast Cancer Action Month and each year The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation (NZBCF) reminds woman of the importance of getting regularly screened, breast cancer education, research and support programmes like Sweet Louise and YWCA Encore. I know too many women that have had to battle this bitch of a cancer (sorry cancer makes me mad).

So here is the thing ladies. How about we stop Instagraming our boobs and we starts mammogramming them. Let’s all aim for that feeling of power you get when you know your body has been checked. When you know for the sake of your family that you have gone and made sure you’re healthy. Let’s all encourage each other to not only get screened but to donate too so that more can be done to help those currently battling.

Text donations “TEXT Pink to 4644 to give $3.” and lets all spread awareness so use the hashtags #NZBCF and #NZPinkRibbon.
